Degryse Electric provides a complete line of services to our customers:
• Education
• Design
• Engineering
• Permitting
• Installation
• Interconnection administration
• Facilitate final building department and utility inspections
• Follow up with post-installation monitoring and warranty service
All administrative services involving government incentives, utility interconnection and building department permitting are included in the sale and installation process. We bill you at the post-rebate contract amount, effectively financing part of your system until the rebate is paid by the state.
Solar Components
The major components of a grid-connected solar power system include solar modules and inverters. The solar modules produce DC electricity and the inverters and transformers convert the DC to AC electricity, which can be used onsite or fed to the utility grid, spinning the meter backwards and crediting your utility account. Almost all of your home appliances run on AC electricity.
Buying & Selling Power
By signing an Interconnection Agreement with the utility company, you are able to trade power with the utility at retail rates. The process of trading power with the utilities is called Net Metering. Net Metering allows you to be credited at the same rate that you would otherwise be charged.
Annual Bill
At the end of the annual bill cycle, you are responsible for paying for the difference between what you used and what you produced. Solar power systems produce most of their electricity during times of peak demand when electricity rates are highest. Therefore, you will often feed power into the grid at peak times and pull power from the grid during off peak times. This allows many customers to zero out their bills even if they are not producing as much energy as they are using.
Typical Peak Time
• May — October
• Monday — Friday
• Noon — 6 PM
Typical Off Peak Time
• September — April
• Weekends
• 6 PM — Noon
Grid-connected solar electric systems do not affect your existing electrical infrastructure; you simply supplement the electricity provided by the utility. Therefore, you do not need to make any changes to your appliances or energy usage.
Energy Efficiency Services
Degryse Electric offers whole building energy consulting as part of our services. We perform energy audits in order to identify the most cost effective ways to reduce energy usage. We often couple energy efficiency measures with on-site solar generation. This may allow you to receive the best return on investment (ROI) and greatest independence from utility power.
Lighting
The most common residential and commercial energy efficiency upgrades are lighting. You can often significantly reduce your electrical consumption by swapping old incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. Linear fluorescent lights with magnetic ballasts can often be changed for more efficient bulbs using electronic ballasts. Utility companies frequently offer rebates for these lighting retrofits.
Solar Energy Efficiency Rebates
Utility companies offer commercial entities rebates for many different types of energy efficient retrofits. Learn more at PG&E’s website. There are substantial rebates for lighting upgrades, occupancy sensors, HVAC upgrades, and refrigeration upgrades. These upgrades, when combined with the installation of a solar power system, often yield greatly reduced operating costs, yield substantial return on investment, and shield your business from the effects of rising electric rates.
